    Pastor John K. Jenkins Sr.

Pastor John K. Jenkins Sr. serves as the senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Glenarden with campuses in Landover and Upper Marlboro, Md.

Coupled with the support of his wife Trina, Pastor Jenkins has been the senior pastor of this thriving metropolitan church since 1989. He was licensed to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in 1973, at the early age of 15. As a teenager, he was a much sought after youth preacher. In February 1987, Pastor Jenkins was called to serve as the senior pastor of the Union Bethel Baptist Church in King George, Va. He faithfully served there until December 1989, when he returned to First Baptist where he was installed as its seventh shepherd after the homegoing of his pastor and mentor, Dr. John W. Johnson.

Humility, compassion and integrity best describe the ministry of Pastor Jenkins. Since his installation, the church membership has grown from 500 to more than 10,000 members. Under his leadership, the church has more than 100 ministries that meet the diverse needs of the congregation and community. First Baptist also employs more than 200 individuals.

Pastor Jenkins’ ministry extends beyond the walls of the First Baptist Church of Glenarden into the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and beyond. Pastor Jenkins serves as the chairman for Project Bridges; a trustee for Bethel University; on the boards of Greater Prince George's Business Roundtable, National Association of Evangelicals, Skinner Leadership Institute, Vision 360 and a local hospital; and as vice president/executive director of National Ministries with Converge Worldwide. In 1996, under the leadership of Pastor Jenkins, First Baptist founded SHABACH! Ministries, Inc. (SMI). He currently serves as chairman emeritus of SMI, which provides clothing, food, education and other resources to more than 11,000 people in the Maryland area. He has previously served on the board of Great Dads and a local bank.

Pastor Jenkins travels extensively around the United States and internationally preaching and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Since 1973, he has devoted his life to the mandate of Matthew 28:20 – winning lost souls for the kingdom that has extended across five continents. Countless testimonies attest to his passion to "Develop Dynamic Disciples" who will impact the world for Jesus in such a way that families are strengthened, broken hearts are healed and the captive are set free.

In 2001, Pastor Jenkins received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Southern California School of Ministry in Inglewood, Calif.

Pastor Jenkins and his wife are the proud parents of six children and one granddaughter.
